The U.S. Military ACU (Army Combat Uniform) Large Field Rucksack, a key component of the MOLLE (Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) II system, is a durable and versatile pack designed to carry the substantial load required for extended field operations. First introduced in the mid-2000s, this rucksack became standard issue for soldiers, easily identified by its Universal Camouflage Pattern (UCP).

MOLLE II System: The rucksack is covered in PALS (Pouch Attachment Ladder System) webbing, allowing for the attachment of various MOLLE-compatible pouches and equipment, enabling soldiers to customize their load-out for specific missions.

Durable Construction: It is constructed from 1000 Denier Cordura nylon, a material known for its exceptional strength, abrasion resistance, and water-repellent properties.

Large Capacity: The main compartment offers a voluminous storage capacity of approximately 4,000 cubic inches (about 65 liters). With the addition of two included sustainment pouches, the total capacity can be expanded to around 5,000 cubic inches (approximately 82 liters).

Top and Bottom Access: The main compartment can be accessed from the top via a large drawstring opening or from the bottom through a zippered compartment, which is often used to store a sleeping bag. A collapsible divider separates these two sections.

External Frame: The rucksack is mounted on a lightweight, durable polymer frame that provides support and helps distribute the weight of the load more evenly and comfortably.

Adjustable Harness System: The system includes adjustable, padded shoulder straps and a molded waist belt, which are crucial for carrying heavy loads over long distances. The harness can be adjusted to fit various torso lengths.
